"I scoured the internet and tech stores on the ground for a cost-effective, yet well stocked, and cool looking laptop for my soon to be college freshman son and I couldn't have found a better fit. Really shocked to find a laptop that has so much memory, hard drive, 3rd generation i5 chip, other great features and is designed to look much more expensive at this price. Only lacking feature that would have been good is no backlit keyboard but on the other hand this is an excellent tactile keyboard design."
"The weak point is the trackpad - I recommend disabling tap to select as it is oversensitive - even better - use an external mouse.
Strong points are the 3rd gen core i3 processor, the keyboard, the low noise emission, the removable & replaceable battery, the ease of upgrading the hard drive and the RAM (to max 2 x 8GB), the built in optical drive.
The computer also fails to install windows 8 updates until you disable "Nalpeiron Licensing Service" - this can be corrected - see http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8-Knowledge-Base/Failure-configuring-Windows-Updates-Windows-8/ta-p/928311"
Cons: Software compatibility, Build Quality, Durability, lots of glitches, should be more durable than this
"i had just bought this PC about a little more than 2-3 weeks ago and it was working fine and then the store warranty passed and it was fine.... until the screen broke. the screen is extremely fragile and poorly designed because it broke from a simple single earphone being placed down onto its key bored (i was listening to Pandora) and being closed (i take care of my stuff and close my screens lightly too i don't slam them shut) so then... after coming back to it later.... i find the screen has a crack on it and i cant see about 3/4ths of the screen. Summary: no i would never recommend this to ANYONE especially someone with children or someone who wants a computer to last more than a week PS if you buy this computer buy a monitor because the screen will NOT last"
"I'm very happy with my Lenovo. Took a day to get used to Windows 8, the first few hours was total chaos, but then it all came together. Good keyboard. The sound is absolutely amazing!"
"Really good laptop to buy if you're a student or buying your first laptop it has more performance than I anticipated best bang for buck machine I ever bought."
"I like almost everything about this computer. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the built-in mouse. It does not seem to move fast enough. It can get pretty annoying. The keyboard is also very spread out, but I can adjust to that. This laptop will do for now."
"Bought this to replace an aging G560. My next laptop will probably be a different brand unless Lenovo fixes the awful touchpad. Also, the glossy surface shows every fingerprint.
Seriously, the touchpad is a nightmare. Despite trying every setting, and turning off the extra features, 6/10 times, what should be a normal swipe of the mouse ends up being misinterpreted as a click. If I hadn't already given my G560 to my wife, I'd take it back.
Also, I cannot use my DirecTV2PC app to watch my recorded TV programs, as the application tells me that the video card/driver cannot play/display protected content. I can if I roll back the video driver to an older version and change my display color depth to 16-bit. This is a minor annoyance, however."
"First off, let me say that I am an avid computer nut. I've been dealing with computers since 1995, and I am no stranger to them!
I've had multiple brands, and the Lenovos are the best bang for your buck. The G580 is a solid, well built machine compared to to others in the segment. Other brands can't compare. The G580 has minimal flex and feels super solid, almost like the ThinkPads! The screen is crisp and vivid, and the battery lasts a LONG time. Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but once you play around with it, it's not so bad. The keyboard is wonderful as well. It is very tactile. Overall, if you are looking for a nice laptop that will last, the G580 is the way to go!"
"I purchased the G580 in December 2011 for my daughter. The whole family uses it and I have absolutely no negatives to say about it. Here we are almost a year and 1/2 later and still works flawlessly with no issues. Highly reccomended especially for the low entry level price. The only thing I don't like (small thing) is the outside is a shiny surface and so it shows all the finger prints. Oh well, just wipe it off and looks like new again. Really 5 stars on this unit."
"I am HAPPY, CONTENTED & INLOVE with my LENOVO.. & WINDOWS 8:) i loveee windows 8...It doesn't overheat too even if i had it one for more than 18 hrs a day...Memory might be a little too small but you can always get an external hard drive to add up to your laptops memory or a USB where you can just put some of your important docus. just saying:) don't judge my pro's.. the laptop always DEPENDS on the user & how its being used."
"Pros: Price (bought some place else, but still, this laptop has a good price). Everything works in Linux Ubuntu 12.04.2. You can even install it with the UEFI secure boot BIOS option on (in other distros you may not). Other distros may need two extra drivers, the wl broadcom driver and the alx atheros driver. Ubuntu gives you the option to install the wl driver automatically after installation, the alx driver gets installed automatically during installation. Cons: Windows 8. In W8 the pad has a mind of its own. No led light for the num lock, and the other indicators for power, capslk, and batt are in a bad location instead of being right in the upper part of the keyboard/laptop, plenty of space there. Screen is so-so, not the best, but for the price everything is OK."
"This is a great laptop! (Celeron B830 1.8 GHZ processer and 4 GB of installed ram)
Pros:
Good res screen (not the best, but decent for cost) Fast/efficient processing Great power options! Good keyboard (the number pad is a nice plus) Decent graphics (it will play most games well and it depicts movies in good resolution The speakers are also decent (Again, they are not astounding, but I paid less than $500 for this model) Amazing wifi (I have picked up signals from two/three blocks away)
Pros/Cons:
Lenovo Specific Mouse Drivers
Cons:
CD/DVD Player and Case are a little flimsy.
All in all it is a great package for what I paid and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice work horse, light gaming, and/or entertainment computer!"
"I cannot wait to put Linux on this laptop, absolutely hate the windows 8 and how microsoft wants to know everything about you. Also, it could be a little more sturdy. Otherwise, I love my Lenovo!"
Pros: Input/Output compatibility, Weight, Processor, Included software, Durability, Software compatibility, Memory, Video card, Wireless card, Keyboard/peripherals, Screen size, Storage, Display performance, i look cool sitting in the coffee shop
Cons: Display resolution, Battery, wish i would have gotten it sooner!
"I wanted a laptop for music production so I had purchased another laptop. But the processor didn't cut it. I took it back and got this bad boy. The processor handles everything I throw at it and 6 gigs of Ram....,Highly nice. the design is sleek/comfortable, not big and bulky. I never use touchpads anyways, I just use a mouse, If you want something for schooling or surfing the web this comp will really get the job done. Also I didn't like windows 8 but I learned how to use it. The included software is good, really depends on personal preferences, The battery is cool, just gotta adjust energy saver settings.wish the resolution was higher, but...., really, cant complain. This comp is great for the price."
