disappointed with keyboard layout

Date:March 2, 2012
"I bought the E520 after owning an IBM Think Pad R52 for many years. I do a lot of word processing. Not much of a tech-y. teh E520 (which I orderred custom-built) is of course much faster, the design is very nice. I wanted something sleeker, which it is.
Two problems with the key board: 1. the placement of the DELETE button: it is now a very thin key in a row above the square keys and next to the INSERT button. so I am constantly hitting the INSERT button instead of the delete. Much time spent correcting a correction. The number pad on the right side is unnecessary and i wish I had noticed that before I bought it.
2. the "r" key seems to stick such that I am always getting 2 r's. I haven't called on this.
3. the size of the laptop is deceiving. I orderred the 15 inch. but it doesn't fit in my computer roller case (for traveling) because it is really 17 inches across, too wide for it.
i always liked the feel of the IBM think Pad keyboard and this one is still good. but I wish I had noticed the layout before I bought. Mine is only 4 months old. the machine itself seems to be very good. so far."

small business E520

Date:April 23, 2012
"I bought the E520 after getting 7 years out of my old T60. I have hopes that this one will last as long and prove to be as durable and reliable as my T60. So far, so good. I drag my laptops everywhere and don't have time for something to break. I trust my small business to Lenovo, and so far everything else I tried seems not hardy enough. It is sleek looking and works fast, and does it all, while being light-weight as well. Definitely recommend it."

The Edge Factor E520

Date:February 28, 2012
"After my mom's 3rd hand pc finally crashed, I decided to buy her a new pc, after surfing the web for a great deal, the Edge E520 gave a good impression. I use to do intern for IBM so when it arrived I like that look of the Edge cause reminded me of the old Thinkpads but cooler. Overall it has been performing pretty solid. Sometimes the DVD will spin so loud that you think it going to explode, could be the type of disk that its accessing. The thinkVantage software is also annoying with all the reminders. The good, solid performs well. The bad, annoying reminders and loud DVD access."

Good for the first 6 months

Date:February 23, 2012
"I bought a lenovo because I heard great things about their hardware. I ended up getting a thinkpad edge because they were price competitively. For the first six months the computer performed fairly well. It wasnt till about 5 months ago that it started slowing down. Its now to point where it will hardly function. I took it Staples for a diagnostics and they said that the motherboard was bad. Unfortunately, I am just out of the 1 year warranty range so Lenovo support would not help me at all. I think Lenovo is good but I think thats it their higher end models that carry that reputation. I would not get an edge because I think that they use lower quality materials compared to their other models because it is a base model. If you get an edge, make sure you get at least 2 year service warranty."

Best notebook ever owned.

Date:February 22, 2012
"After owning many brands on notebooks I finally purchased a Lenovo Edge E520. This has been the best notebook purchase I have ever made out of approximately 10 of various brands. As long as Lenovo continues with what they are doing I wil continue to be a avid user of their notebooks. I use it for work, home and entertainment.
Great notebook and great service!"

Could be better

Date:February 20, 2012
Pros: Processor, Keyboard/peripherals, Storage
Cons: Durability, Display resolution, Battery, lcd portion of the case
"Purchased the z570 and the e520, I like the e520 better, better keyboard. Biggest gripe is the case, the LCD portion of the case is made out of a flexable rubber type of plastic. It's very easy to bend the LCD portion of the laptop, i would say it's too flexable. Mine came with a 7200rpm drive and an i5 processor, it has plenty of speed, the speakers are terrible. Other than the LCD display being flexable I have few complaints. Battery seems to be good for about 3hrs or so."

"This is very well priced laptop. I would rate this laptop to a high end laptop with a good price.
It performed great at 4gigs ram, after I upgraded to 8 gigs of ram now it flys. I have many lenovo products and had never been let down. They have great support and download support. I have been in the IT field for 30 yrs and lenovo has it going for them.
Thanks Lenovo for great products.

Kind of Bulky

Date:February 10, 2012
Pros: Durability, value
Cons: Weight, Keyboard/peripherals, Battery
"It was a good value, but there were tradeoffs:
The First machine received had nonfunctioning keys...it took two weeks for a new one to be sent, with fingerpointing between Lenovo and the online vendor, and the online vendor finally did the right thing and resolved the issue.
They've squeezed a number pad in, like many others, at the expense of standard key placement and sizes for special keys like PageUp and the DELETE keys. It really wasn't needed for my use, and it only makes the keyboard unfamiliar. This makes a touch typist frustrated with more errors and more time wasted as we have to hunt for keys!
The fingerprint security is convenient and impressive. Also, I tend to keep lots of windows open, and the system performs better than my previous laptop.
It is a workhorse and a good value; If you want a sleeker, thinner, less bulky look, and a lighter machine, there are better options."

Good Laptop, Some cons

Date:January 24, 2012
Pros: Durability, Screen size, Build Quality, Battery, Keyboard/peripherals, Storage, value
Cons: Weight, Processor, Display performance
"Love It.. Good Design, quite strong. Just is a bit easy to get dirty with fingerprint marks but that doesn't matter. A bit slow but cannot be helped seeing as I got the most basic settings. Keyboard is very comfortable. Also, the screen quality is not so good but acceptable. Shipping was on time and no damages. Check im happy"

Great Product and Purchase!

Date:January 21, 2012
Pros: Weight, Software compatibility, Wireless card, Screen size, Battery, Processor, Memory, Keyboard/peripherals, mouse pointer
"I've never owned a laptop because I was concerned about power and performance. I've only used desktops in the past. This laptop exceeded my expectations by far.
On top of the performance, I was really impressed by the speedy delivery of the product itself. I was expecting to wait a couple of weeks, and recieved my laptop within a week!

Great Laptop for my Buisness needs

Date:January 13, 2012
Pros: Processor, Durability, Memory, Keyboard/peripherals, Build Quality, Storage
"I had a Sony Viao that finally died on me. I needed a laptop that I could use for my business needs. This Laptop has performed well. I have dropped it once and bumped it many times, no damage whatever. It seems to be very well built. Keyboard is much better than most of the others I looked at. I have a i5 with 500GB drive. It is very fast and performs very good for my needs.
Con: The only problem I have had is the fingerprint reader quits working if you constantly suspend, it will start back after you do a total shutdown."

New work laptop

Date:December 31, 2011
Pros: Weight, Durability, Bluetooth, Wireless card, Screen size, Build Quality, Display resolution, Battery, Input/Output compatibility, Processor, Keyboard/peripherals
Cons: front "edge" of palm pad
"After 7 years I replaced my work laptop with a customized E520. I take it with me everyday to homes all over my town to program remotes and set up networks. I've had it for a month and love it so far. The speed is great(i5-2520), including the power up speed. Love having the number pad and a higher res screen. It is easily portable, while still having a large enough screen to multitask with. Great buy compared to others I could get at local stores. Only complaint is the sharp "edge" on the front of the palm rest. It's not unbearable, it's just not as comfortable as others. I only notice it when using the trac-pad, when I get more used to using the TrackPoint system it won't be as bad."

Superb!

Date:December 23, 2011
Pros: Durability, Screen size, Build Quality, Display resolution, Memory, Keyboard/peripherals
Cons: i3 vs. i5. what's the difference?
"I have the E520 / Core i3 / 500 GB / Windows 7 Home Premium / Microsoft Office.
I saw the ThinkPad on sale at Best Buy and at Office Depot. Decided to order it from Lenovo.com and customize it. Definitely worth the wait. I got it for a steal during Black Friday Weekend and Microsoft Office was half-price.
Performance is excellent. Very Fast. However, I find the web browsing to be a little less responsive then my predecessor the Dell XPS M1330. I don't know if going for the i5 would have made web browsing faster. The sites I do frequent now seem to be cached and so now it seems to be running "normal."
Came pre-loaded with Google's Chrome browser which I absolutely LOVE! So, that was a plus. The desktop is clean of apps and quick-starts - another plus. It's all about simplicity.
Haven't quit figured out why Lenovo put the quick tap in there when all the quick keys are already on the keyboard. Also, had to get used to the the "Ctrl" button being the 2nd from the left. I'm a total PC person and use hot keys all the time to cut and paste."

So very satisfied

Date:December 12, 2011
Pros: Durability, Bluetooth, Build Quality, Processor, Support, Memory
"i have owned my E520 for about 3 weeks now , i love it , it is my first laptop and am very satisfied with my purchase, it stands out from the crowed without any unnecessary aesthetics. the processor run very fast like it says on many reviews, the disk drive can be a tad loud, bu nothing too dramatic. the boot and shut down is fast and the machine build feels solid. it will be with me for many years , and i will work on getting a T series sometime in the near future"

Good for home business use

Date:October 14, 2011
Pros: start-up and shut down time
Cons: Battery
"Bought this on lenovo.com and customised slightly to include bluetooth, camera and i5 processor. I didn't get the fingerprint reader as I suspect that it is rather gimmicky, like the facial recognition software lenovo tried on my previous laptop.
Startup and shutdown are extremely quick, haven't timed it but maybe 30 seconds. There is only one USB port on the right side, though it hasn't bothered me yet.
The build is less robust than the T-series thinkpads, but fully adequate for home office use. This is my first 15 inch laptop and I love the numeric keypad
Big disappointment seems to be the battery. Battery life is good, but the battery doesn't charge to full, even after a reset. In fact, the battery capacity drops at a rate of 2% per week, so after 3 weeks I can only charge to 94% of the original charge. At this rate the battery won't last a year and maybe 8-9 months before the laptop must be near an outlet to use. In comparison, my 2008 ideapad Y430 took a year and a half to get to that stage."

Great Choice!

Date:October 10, 2011
Pros: Weight, Durability, Software compatibility, Screen size, Display performance, Battery, Keyboard/peripherals, Storage
"I had been researching laptops for awhile, waiting to stumble across a good deal. Lo and behold - Lenovo had an excellent sale right when I was ready to buy! My computer functions well, holds a battery charge for hours, and is sleek and easy to maneuver. I did have some difficulty finding an appropriate laptop bag for it (I wanted something lighter and a little more "fun" than basic black), but after a few re-measurements I was able to find one that fit it comfortably. Would definitely recommend."
