Poor design, slow

Date: May 25, 2014
"The speakers are located underneath the computer which negatively effects acoustics on a frequent basis. Furthermore, the speakers can not achieve a high volume, so in busy environments without headphones you must hold your computer in the air and press your air against the bottom of the bottom the computer to hear anything. Not ideal to say the least.
The trackpad is placed off-centre left for no understandable reason, which negatively affects typing. Furthermore, clicking with the trackpad causes the pointer to move erratically, and as such is nearly impossible to use. This does not improve with careful practiced effort.
The lid of the laptop is difficult to open because of stiff joints, so it requires two hands to open.
The inbuilt microphone on this model requires shouting."

Solid machine

Date: May 21, 2014
"I got this machine because I need a big touchscreen laptop, and there is no such thing as a T540s (yet). It took me a while to get the touchpad adjusted properly (I use it only for left, right and middle clicks, in conjunction with the trackpoint button). Once set up it works fine and is predictable. Turning off "gestures" is key to this kind of setup.
The hi-res version of the touchscreen is beautiful and bright. Other than that, the machine is a bit big and clunky, but works great and for the price can't be beat."

great machine but keyb. design is not busn. friend

Date: April 16, 2014
"I've been using e520 for 5 yr. already. Overall I am very happy. You need to be ready that your machine, drive or motherboard will die within first 3 yr. My did, 3yr. warranty is a must.
Keyboard is great as far as it's construction - responsive, only slightly bending at upper left part.
However my biggest issue with button positions.
1. Alt-F4/F3, Ctrl-End / Home, Ctrl-Sh-End /
Lenovo always specialized in busn. laptops and keyboards were always a specialty- managed to fail them ALL.
Pressing of F3 or 4 requires extra button 'Red'. for Alt-F4 one need 2 hands to press 3 buttons.
When I need to use Home or End, I have to reach somewhere on top and those are small buttons.

Probably my last Lenovo!

Date: April 4, 2014
"I have to agree with everyone else. The lack of responsiveness of the mouse pad and lack of buttons are definitively obstacles to productivity. Bought some much cheaper versions of the E series and they had better mouse pads and real buttons. I configured this one with better options because I was going to be using it myself. Now I wish I had not ordered another Lenovo. I have been loyal because of the eraser head mouse and the mouse buttons. Now they have taken that away. So, until they redesign the Thinkpad to be what it used to be--a real workhorse--I will be researching other brands. How many customers are you willing to lose, Lenovo, before you listen to their complaints?"

Disappointed

Date: March 22, 2014
Cons: doesn't work
"Ordered E540 with Windows 7. Waited 3 weeks with great anticipation. Plugged it in and it didn't work. Start button never showed. Windows button didn't work. Gear button got Control Panel to show twice ... then that died. Then cursor disappeared. The only function that this laptop would perform is to turn on and off. In other words it got power but that was it. Otherwise black screen. PC looked good ... but was useless."

Mousepad is terrible, everything else is great.

Date: March 15, 2014
Pros: Durability, Video card, Screen size, Display resolution
Cons: Keyboard/peripherals
"This laptop is spectacular.. except for the new touch pad, it sometimes goes into a state where the middle and right click are impossible to find.
It may be a driver issue that gets fixed in the future but I have a feeling it's the hardware."

Please give us the old mouse buttons back!!!

Date: March 11, 2014
Pros: Durability, Display performance
Cons: Keyboard/peripherals, Build Quality
"The new mouse pad is a joke!! Very hard to find a right click and need a much harder force to register a click. Please give us the old mouse buttons back!!!
Also, please give us the old casing material back, the new one looks and feels so cheap."
