X220
Datum:28. April 2012
I bought my wife an X220 and compared to my Dell, it has got it going on! So much so that I bought myself an X220 as well.
I like everything about it.
Pros:
1. Lightweight (my dell is like an anchor). It does not stress my elbows as I race from one gate to another at airports. 2. 12.5" Screen is just big enough for travelers, and does not get smashed when the tool sitting in front of you decides to fully recline. 3. Fits perfectly on the Seat trays on planes and I can still set my drink next to it. 4. Mouse Pad is an adjustment but once you get used to it-it completely rocks. BTW, I could never use the Dell version of the mouse pad, it just never worked for me. 5. Fast, and I mean fast-both boot and shutdown are rocket fast compared to my Dell (soooo slow). 6. Not loaded down with all kinds of junk software that you have to manage and delete. 7. Battery lasts forever! 8. Screen resolution is magnificent, none better, not even a Mac.
Cons:
1. No optical drive. But...with jump drives, who really needs one. 2. Customer service is a little off. The jury is still out. 2. Hmmmm. 3. Can't think of anything else.
Seriously if you travel and have to lug a machine all over North America, it should be this one. I even like it better than my Mac Air. Completely worth the Ca$h.
I feel like Ferris Bueller here but...seriously why are you still reading this review, go buy one now! You won't regret it!

Runs Anything

If you're looking for something as good as the X130e, but less strapped for cash, look no further. Buy the X220 with the i7 and WiMAX card. It's the best deal out there, provided that it's still twixe as much as an X130e without a coupon.
I've had the laptop for six months already, and it runs video games like Mount and Blade flawlessly. If you upgrade the RAM, the Intel integrated video performs just as well as a discrete video card.

Great solid Lapotp
Datum:25. April 2012
Purchased an x220 for our CEO. It is a solid laptop that is fast and well designed. I have always been a Lenovo fan - and finally got our CEO to switch from a competitor to an x220. He is a very aggressive user and goes through laptops yearly. I expect the x220 to hold up better than other brands due to smart construction and design.

I have been a thinkpad owner and user since the 600E ( and that laptop still runs fine) The thinkpad series are great. Designed and built the way I use a laptop, with care but still things happen. And with the x220 it is like taking my desktop anywhere. I do wish there were more volume from the speakers.

Great Design, Poor Performance
Datum:11. April 2012
I really, really wanted to like this computer. I've owned over a dozen Thinkpads over the years. I use a T420 as my work machine, and this was going to be a game/movie/kid-safe machine. It has exactly the same CPU, memory and graphics as my T420, and the exact same keyboard and controls, which I really liked.
However, this is the little machine that couldn't. I noticed right away that the screen was significantly dimmer than my T420, even with all the power settings maxed out. If I put the X220 on maximum brightness (15), it is the same as the T420 on level 11 or 12, in other words much dimmer and washed out. Same for the volume. Max volume (50) on the X220 is the same as around 30 on the T420. To be fair, the T420 has much larger speakers.
But the real problem is the graphics. The X220, even with the second-generation I5 Core chip, just can't handle HD graphics. I tried it with Netflix, YouTube, and even Quicktime, and it stutters and chokes on all three. Even worse, when I play a child's game (nothing fancy), the four CPU's go to 90%, the fan shoots to high, and *really* hot air comes flying out of the vent.
In short, this puppy really needs a graphics card. I had hoped that the Intel 3000 would be an improvement over the old 2000, but apparently not.
Again, I really hated to send this guy back, but for almost $1000, I expected a machine that could zip through a Spongebob video without breaking a sweat. This isn't that machine. Sorry!

Poor reliability
Datum:9. April 2012
I've owned many Thinkpads over the years. Some IBM, and the last three Lenovo. I never had any problems with the IBM's. I have an eight year old x31 that still works.
My problem is with the Lenovo's. I have two x100e's and a recently purchased x220. One of the x100e's had a hard drive and memory failure after a couple of months and had to be returned for repair. While I love the x220, it just broke - and I've owned it three months! It won't even power up.
Lenovo needs to improve their QC - two out of three failures is unacceptable! Hence I can't recommend.

Datum:5. April 2012
This is a no frills no pretty aesthetics machine but it does the work. it is quiet does no heat up like most laptops when processing large amount of data. the logo is not steel it actually plastic and it tends to peal off easily which was disappointing so i had too super glue it back on . However that does not affect system performance in any way . Overall good buy

Great notebook -- I hope.

My x201 was a great computer; powerful, rugged, reliable, and light. I just bought my x220. Hopefully, it will be as good. The keyboard on both has been great.
I like the slightly larger screen on the x220.

light, powerful and well priced
Datum:24. Februar 2012
1. price: I should mention that I bought it on January sale and it cost me 1850$ with tax. at that time the best next price with this configuration was more that 50% more expensive. this is the how i customized it: Intel Core i7-2640M Processor (4M Cache, 2.80 GHz) Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64 Microsoft® Office 2010 preloaded (needs a Product Key) 12.5" Premium HD (1366x768) LED Backlit Display, Mobile Broadband Ready, 2x2 Antenna 8 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM) FINGERPRINT READER CAMERA, HD 720P Intel 160 GB Solid State Drive, Serial ATA ThinkPad Battery 29+ (6 cell) BLUETOOTH 3.0 Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 (2x2 ABGN) Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradable 4YR Onsite + 4YR ThinkPad Protection warranty
2. function: I am a PhD student and I do a lot of processing. I mainly use MATLAB. this system is unbelievably fast, especially because of solid state drive. it boots in less than a minute and it took just 5 minutes to install MATLAB! (the shortest time I had experienced was 30 min)
3.weight: very light.I think it is less than 2 kg.
4.screen size: I had a 13.3'' laptop before and I'm at home with this 12.5'' screen, but if you are used to larger screens, you may not like it. anyway, I think this is the optimized size for its weight and processing power. as of resolution, I think it is great (1366x768). although I do not have very high graphic needs (playing games, watching films, Photoshop, etc)

Light, solid machine with one small glitch
Datum:23. Februar 2012
I have owned and used by X220 for about six months and consider it a real workhorse. Great display quality, wonderful keyboard (perhaps the best of any laptop, a Thinkpad tradition). I like it better than my previous light machine for the road, an X201.
The only problem is an odd one. With some memory intensive programs, such as Excel, the display has trouble keeping up. In Excel, for example, on a larger worksheet the rows will bunch up and can't be read, or rows will unexpectedly be transposed to cover the ribbon, so that they and the ribbon can't be read. This seems to be a limitation of the built-in graphics chip, the Intel HD Graphics 3000. It should be adequate for these straightforward business tasks; 64 megs of video RAM are built in. Yet, those big files, in both Excel and also, surprisingly, in Word, can tie themselves up. When that happens, the only solution is to close the program and start over.
If you need graphics clarity for all business purposes, you would be wise to consider this issue before buying the X220.

Rocketship? I ordered a laptop!
Datum:23. Februar 2012
Lenovos Thinkpad x220, rocketship, laptop or a fabled beast escaping the flames of hades. It was that wonderful time again, my previous Thinkpad was getting a bit dated and I wanted something a bit smaller to carry around. Enter the x220, more power than its predecessor, in a smaller package and with longer battery life.
Oh and did it ever preform; the x220 packing an Intel i7 2640m, an Intel SSD and 8GB of ram packs an incredible punch in such a small package. This laptop borders on being ostentatious with just how much power is packed in side and I have put it through its paces. This machine can handle such grueling tasks as forwarding over 10,000 packets per second on its ethernet interface and running AES 512 bit encrypted storage while still being functional. Do you run virtual machines on the go, in non-turbo mode running up to 3 VM's without a latency hit is a snap, fire up turbo mode and you can run an astonishing 6 or 7 VM's without a latency hit.
I forget how small this laptop is every day, all it takes me to remember is to pickup any other Lenovo laptop. Some of my friends prior to purchasing this dream machine stated things like "the large delete and escape keys are annoying" or "That trackpad is terrible". Its true, the large delete key and the insert key position were annoying... for the first day, after which I forgot entirely about their placement and size. As for the trackpad, its certainly not the most favorable new addition to a Lenovo laptop, however much like the escape and delete keys its something I have not thought about after the first 20 hours of use elapsed.
The configuration I brought home was a 6 cell + the 6 cell slice and it truly is the best of both worlds for my use case. The slice is charged and ready to go at all times in the event I need to run out with little notice. I meander around my house while working and my x220 is plugged in and unplugged often. Battery life is insane, I consistently get roughly an hour per battery cell on this if I am not doing anything crazy. Packing the slim cell battery, its easy to go an entire day without a charge, which is huge considering all but a few laptops rarely provide more than half a dozen hours of use.
Given the demands of my personal and professional life I have already put my x220 through the ringer. By day I use this machine to assess and penetrate the security of my employers clients and it preforms multiple tasks admirably. By night I watch movies, play games, video chat, surf and often fall asleep with it on my lap. Once I drift into dream land, I hop onto my x220 rocket ship and ride it too the moon!

Not - the best purchase ever x220
Datum:23. Februar 2012
Thinkpad fan - it is my third laptop. T40 was superb and still works.
There was no question whether i was buying thinkpad or not, it was question of the model. Now, not sure about the next purchase.
Pros - -comfortable use (if it works) -very dependable if lucky with the motherboard (see below) -screen size 12.5 inch - was slightly hesitant to buy as i was looking for 13 inch screen (not in production any more), but i seem to make good decision
-weight and battery-life -very good keyboard - pls never change it -monitor - eye friendly, Think-pad style - not glossy (unlike most recent 13 inch A1)
Cons - - key weakness (as i can see from other reviews) - motherboad - it got down after several months of operations after the purchase (still waiting for the replacement) -touch pad with hidden buttons - to be reworked(difficult to navigate and locate right/left button places - instead switched to upper buttons

One of the best laptops with no compromises
Datum:22. Februar 2012
This laptop even if it's so small in size (only 12.5") that doesn't make it small in performance.
It's fully packed with great hardware, from energy saving Intel i3, to full power Intel i7 CPUs, and those came with the incredible Intel HD graphics.
The display panel is out of this world, I choose my thinkpad with the high viewing angle IPS display, similar to the panels you found in professional and more expensive monitors.
And the best of all, the toughness of the laptop, the rollcage system makes this thinkpad survive drops and shocks.

My Lenovo's My BFF!
Datum:22. Februar 2012
Yes, a computer can be your Best Friend Forever! My new Lenovo x220 laptop is the second Lenovo I've owned. I'm a copywriter/content developer, so I'm using my computer most of the day. My Lenovo lets me work from anywhere! It's lightweight and the battery lasts forever. And it's ergonomically designed -- with two different "mouse" options -- so I don't get as much hand fatigue. But here's the best part: When I'm in my office, my Lenovo drives my entire desktop setup. There are enough slots to manage all my peripherals and more. So there you have it -- me and my Lenovo -- we're a match made in heaven!

Lightweight Full-Functioning Laptop
Datum:22. Februar 2012
I purchased this laptop for college, and it has been extremely helpful. It's lightweight, which is very important to me since I have to carry the laptop in addition to several heavy textbooks (I look like a turtle walking around campus). The full-functionality of the laptop makes it more ideal than a netbook. I have had this laptop for almost six months now, and it's still in pristine condition.
The only thing that annoys me is the tracker in the middle of the keyboard, but you get used to it.
The ThinkPad X220 Tablet has been the best computer purchase so far! I had decided to buy the X220 in order to start using the tools such as Photoshop, Microsoft products, and many other design tools for which the ThinkPad enables me to use at ease. The fact that it's touchscreen with a Stylus enables more control of my work. The machine runs great without any problem. Support is great, so if I needed to know how to use the product as well. It is also great in the classroom as well as for work. Best Purchase So Far!
